Q: What is it, exactly, that you're offering?
A: We offer free consultation and site analysis (usually backyard or tandem garage) for prospective bomb shelter customers within 70 miles of downtown Houston. If the site is suitable, we will offer EPC (Engineer, Procure, & Construct) services for one of our doomsday shelter products.
Q: What sort of shelter products do you offer?
A: We currently have 4 bomb shelter designs: underground (Houston-proof), above-ground doomsday shelter, partial-embedment survival bunkers, and tandem garage shelters.
Q: Which design is best for me and my family?
A: That depends upon a lot of factors, such as: how many people do you want to protect in your bomb shelter, how large is the site area, are there any underground obstructions, how long do you want to stay sheltered, etc.?
Q: How many minutes of warning will I have prior to a nuclear attack?
A: The new FEMA warning systems are supposed allow for 5 to 15 minutes of warning before a tactical nuclear strike. That's how long you'll have to get into your bomb shelter/survival bunkers.
Q: Will I be able to just leave town and be safe?
A: Maybe, but Houston traffic will likely be even worse than a hurricane evacuation. Experts state that fallout will begin about 10-15 minutes after the detonation and the first 3 days of fallout are the worst. Combine that with EMP effects (most modern cars probably won't drive) and the safest option for those within 50 miles of a blast is usually to shelter in place. Our bomb shelter/survival bunkers/doomsday shelters are much stronger than hurricane-force winds.
Q: Good point. Maybe I should just stay home. Will my home be okay?
A: Houston homes are designed for high winds due to hurricanes; that's good for us. However, the maximum ASCE design wind speed for hurricanes is only 150mph; nuclear blasts have wind speeds of over 450mph. Wind pressure is a squared function of velocity, so the wind pressure from a nuclear blast will be significantly higher than a traditional home can withstand. Only a properly-designed and built bomb shelter/doomsday shelter can withstand these wind speeds.
Q: But Houston probably won't be a strategic nuclear target, right?
A: Houston makes most of the Oil & Gas, Nitrates, and Chemicals for the entire nation. These are the key ingredients for warfare. We also offer in-plant bomb shelter/doomsday shelter designs for companies who want to protect their employees.
Q: Is this one of those "pop up" temporary shelters?
A: No, we design and construct a permanent bomb shelter/doomsday shelter structure. Our survival bunkers are the strongest.
Q: Is this going to ruin the look of my backyard?
A: No, our Houston underground bomb shelters are almost unnoticeable and our partial-embedment doomsday shelter structures can be easily integrated into a deck or other desirable backyard space. Some customers may also benefit from our new tandem-garage shelter. We always bring along our in-house architect/stylist to make recommendations during consultations for our survival bunkers.
Q: How long does it take to build one of your bomb shelters?
A: Most of our bomb shelter designs can be built within 2 weeks. Our tandem-garage designs require an additional 2 weeks. Our survival bunkers are the result of daily concrete pours, forming and steel reinforcing.
Q: Can I just add a strong room inside my house?
A: If you are building a new house from scratch, this can be designed into it. However, typical existing Houston post-stressed foundations are not designed for the weight of a proper bomb shelter to be built on top.
Q: How long should I plan on "hunkering down" in my shelter?
A: This situation would be quite different than a large, catastrophic Houston hurricane. That said:
Q: So, will everything be fine after 3 weeks?
A: Depending upon the distance from the nearest blast, your home may be damaged (or destroyed). Electricity, water, cell phones, and internet are unlikely to be functional. A little planning in advance will go a long way. Satellite phones, Meshtastic, Ham radios and other non-local innovations will be helpful for communicating with friends and family, as long as these were protected from EMP blasts. After 3 weeks, the focus would shift to other concerns: security, water, & food. These items can also be designed into your bomb shelter! It is anticipated that anyone in your shelter would be one of the few in Houston to survive the first 3 weeks.
